Metrics
Built-In and Custom Metrics
Start with the standard story measurements, then add focused lenses when the manuscript needs them.
What it does
Built-in metrics cover common narrative questions such as relevance, tension, resolution, awareness, coherence, conflict, and pacing. Custom metrics can be added as definition-driven evaluators for story-specific needs.
Why it matters
A metric like Poetics can work alongside tension without needing a full web of story objects. It can evaluate the current scene for image, rhythm, texture, and language while still returning structured results.
- Built-in metrics give a starting vocabulary for manuscript review.
- Custom metrics let a project define its own craft questions.
- Scene-only metrics can use tighter prompt context than plot-aware metrics.
